FAQs about BOOST Fall Prevention Program

Boost is a comprehensive fall prevention program designed to assess and mitigate the risk of falls among older adults in Singapore. It incorporates evidence-based strategies such as exercise, education, and environmental modifications to enhance balance, strength, and mobility. The program involves personalized assessments to identify individual fall risk factors and tailor interventions accordingly.

By addressing factors like muscle weakness, impaired balance, and environmental hazards, Boost aims to reduce the likelihood of falls and promote independence and safety in daily activities for older adults in Singapore.

Falls among older adults can be caused by various factors, including muscle weakness, balance problems, vision impairment, medication side effects, environmental hazards like slippery floors or poor lighting, and chronic health conditions such as arthritis or Parkinson’s disease. Additionally, age-related changes like decreased bone density and slower reflexes contribute to increased fall risk.

Identifying and addressing these factors through exercises, home modifications, regular vision check-ups, medication reviews, and preventive measures can significantly reduce the risk of falls among older adults.

Fall prevention programs are offered across various settings to address the diverse needs of individuals. In the community, options include the Active Aging Hub, Senior Activity Centre, and Wellness Centre, which promote healthy aging and activities to enhance balance and strength. In rehabilitation, both inpatient and outpatient rehab, day rehab centres, and home therapy services offer tailored interventions to improve mobility and reduce fall risk. Long-term care facilities like nursing homes and day care centers also implement fall prevention strategies through comprehensive care plans and environmental modifications.
